Paradromics is building a brain-computer interface that reads signals directly from the brain at far higher bandwidth than earlier devices, and in June 2026 it placed that device in its first human patient. It was founded in 2015 by Matt Angle, who set out to translate neural-recording research from a Stanford lab into a fully implantable device, and it is based in Austin, Texas.
What it does. Paradromics’s device, called Connexus, is a fully implantable system. Small modules sit on the surface of the brain and record the activity of more than 1,600 individual neurons, and that signal is sent wirelessly through the skin to an external system that turns it into speech or computer commands. The first use is for people who have lost the ability to speak — through paralysis, stroke, ALS, or injury — giving them a way to communicate again. The longer-term aim is a general link between the brain and machines, but the near-term product is speech restoration. The device has held Breakthrough Device status with the FDA since 2023, which speeds up its regulatory review.
Where it stands. On June 2, 2026, Paradromics completed its first human implant, part of its Connect-One feasibility study. The first patient is a woman in Michigan who lost her voice to paralysis, and the immediate goal is to show the system can restore her speech. This is the start of the clinical phase: each additional implant is meant to build a record of safety and performance. The company is also preparing to run trials in Saudi Arabia, at a hospital in Riyadh, alongside the US study.
Funding. Paradromics has raised more than $125 million to date, including a $20 million seed in 2021 and a $33 million Series A in 2023, both led by Prime Movers Lab. In late 2025 it added a convertible note — about $28.5 million at more than three times its Series A price — plus $15 million of strategic financing from a sovereign wealth fund. Its Series B is now getting underway as the first clinical data comes in.

Worth keeping in mind. This is a clinical-stage medical-device company, earlier and higher-risk than most names we cover. One person has been implanted so far, and the result that matters — restoring real, reliable speech — still has to be shown, then repeated, then carried through years of trials and FDA review before there is a product to sell. There is no revenue yet and no near-term path to an IPO. The field is drawing more entrants and more money, which cuts both ways. For an investor, this is a long-horizon, all-or-nothing bet on a technology that is only now meeting its first patients.
